After a report on the outbreak of African swine fever in Mongla townsip in Kengtong district, eastern Shan State, departmental personnel led by Kengtong district administrator U Win Min Thein stepped up preventative measures in the town of Kengtong in collaboration with social organizations yesterday.
In doing so, officials inspected stalls selling pork in the market, pig farms and vehicles coming from the towns of Mongla, Mongyan, Mongkhat and sprayed them with insecticide liquid. Illegal transport of live pigs and pork-related products are also banned in the town. According to news about the outbreak of African swine fever, pork consumption was on the decrease in the town of Kengtong from 5 to 13 August, forcing pork sellers to close their shops.
