More than 20,500 acres of cropland in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State have been destroyed by floodwaters after the water level of Attayan River has exceeded its danger mark following severe rains in the area for many days.
20,366 acres of paddy field and around 200 acres of sugarcane plantation in the township have been wiped out by inundation, according to a source from the township Department of Agriculture. Arrangements are being made carry out rehabilitation tasks as water level of the Attayan River has receded.
The damaged acres of paddy field will be compiled and paddy seeds will be provided to farmers in order to regrow their farmlands on a timely manner, said an official from the Department of Agriculture Land Management and Statistics.—Cho Myat Myat Htwe (Kyaikmaraw)
