The Bar Council of the Supreme Court held its meeting 3/2019 in the meeting hall of the Union Attorney-General’s Office on 21 August.


In his speech at the meeting, Bar Council of the Supreme Court’s Chairman Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo said the Law Amending the Bar Council Act has been enacted. As per the law the reformed 15-member Bar Council was to include 11 advocates with at least 15 years of services nominated by advocates. The rule of the law for nomination and election of the 11 advocates were to be issued by the Supreme Court of the Union. At the moment Supreme Court of the Union had sent a draft Bar Council Election Rule seeking recommendation of the Bar Council on it. Our work group had provided amendments, additions and suggestions of the Yangon and Mandalay council members on the draft rule. The day’s meeting was to discuss and suggest on the draft rule. Supreme Court Bar Council also assessed and approved the membership application of Supreme Court advocates as well as giving recommendations on their ethic, duties, responsibilities and rights. Three complaints transferred by Pyithu Hluttaw Complaints and Appeal Committee and complaints submitted to Supreme Court Bar Council were submitted to Union Chief Justice. In addition to this, Smart Card registration cards for Supreme Court advocates were being distributed and all are urged to strive together toward improvement in the work of the Supreme Court Bar Council said the Union Attorney General.


The chairman, vice chairman of 10 members of the Bar Council of the Supreme Court attended the meeting. — MNA
