To further promote the existing close and cordial Pauk-phaw relations, Union Minister of the Ministry of the Office of the State Counsellor visited China. The Union Minister arrived in Beijing in the morning of 27th August 2019. He called on the State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr Wang Yi at 11:30 am.

During the course of discussions, they discussed about cooperation between two countries in the regional and international fora. The Union Minister expressed Myanmar’s thanks and appreciations to the support China has provided in such arenas as the Human Rights Council, the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council. The State Councillor and Foreign Minister reiterated China’s principled position and continued support in these areas.

They discussed the issue of the displaced persons from Rakhine. Mr Wang Yi expressed the principled position of China that the issue should be resolved bilaterally. This has consistently been Myanmar’s position and the only practical and effective way to implement the bilateral agreement signed between Myanmar and Bangladesh.

They also discussed about Myanmar’s peace process and China reiterated its continued support for the peace process that has been implemented as a top priority by the democratically elected Government of Myanmar. 

They also discussed matters of mutual interests including the speedy implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative’s process.—MNA
