With the water level in the Taninthayi River remaining above the danger mark in Taninthayi since 27 August, the town in southern Myanmar has experienced a second flood in this rainy season.

So far, the flood has forced 15 schools to close, according to the Taninthayi Township Education Department.

The department closed seven schools on 30 August, four schools on 31 August, and four schools yesterday.

The second incidence of flooding has affected over 4,000 students at the basic education level. The schools will hold classes for students on weekends to make up for the lost school days. — Nan Tharyi-HtainWin (IRPD)
