The boat was carrying about 60 people, including tourists and crew. It overturned in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

Local officials say 27 were rescued or swam to the river bank. Eleven are dead and over 20 unaccounted for.

Everyone on the vessel was an Indian national.
The boat was operated by a local tour company. It was heading from a temple along the river to a scenic spot downstream.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

Local media say other boat services were suspended after the river swelled with rain that continued through Saturday.

They say the water around the accident site was swirling dangerously.

Local authorities continue to search for the missing.
