Mandalay 24 September

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) issued that a vocational training center is being constructed in Mandalay Prison.

The two-storey training center is jointly conducted by ICRC and Department of Correction. At the training center, those who were in prison can study mechanical, electrical engineering and welding.

“This is a pilot cooperation to boost the lives of prisoners and the verified courses will bring job opportunities for their rehabilitation when they were released” said Olivier Gamel from ICRC.

“The center will be 875 square meter and the cost of the construction is about K 2.3 million. The construction was started in August and now it has been completed by 30 percent”, said U Cho Win Tun, Prison Warden of Mandalay Central Prison. The sketch of the center was drawn in 2017, according to ICRC.
