The 13th Tachilek–Chiangrai Border Cooperation on Aganist Trafficking in Person meeting was held on Tuesday at the Wan Kan Hotel in the Chiang Rai province of Thailand.
At the meeting, the Chiang Rai province administrator delivered the opening speech, while anti-trafficking in person office and Head of Tachilek district Police Lt-Col Paw Tun, and observer from Laos Pol Lt-Col Norkhama Dalavong gave welcoming speeches.
Then, they discussed the migrant labor issue, types of trafficking cases, and language barriers faced in managing the cases.
They also reached five decisions: to cooperate in respect of border issues such as anti-trafficking problems, language problems being faced during investigations into the migrant or trafficking-in-persons issues; to cooperate with Laos when young women from Laos are forced to marry Chinese men; to cooperate in the identification or verification of fake passports and fraudulent visas found in the hands of Myanmar migrant laborers; and, to assign contact persons for four anti-human trafficking sectors: policy and cooperation, prevention, prosecution, and protection.
The 13th Tachilek–Chiang Rai border cooperation on anti-trafficking meeting was attended by 20 representatives from Thailand, 15 representatives from Myanmar, and 15 representatives from Laos on observer status.—Myint Moh (Tachilek)
