Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint held a meeting with the heads of the Information and Public Relations Department from across the states and regions in his office, in Nay Pyi Taw, yesterday.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister first mentioned that Daw Khin Kyi Foundation handed over their mobile libraries, machinery and books with a ceremony the other day. He reiterated from the speech he gave on that day by saying that the Ministry of Information (MoI) will endeavour to meet the level of trust put into the handover. He said they must maintain the implemented mechanisms and expand the mobile library services to greater heights.

The Union Minister said a unique aspect of IPRD is it interacts directly with the public. He said that aspect was concealed in the former years as the IPRD was only known for its libraries and public interaction was limited to photo displays of government processes on notice boards.

But now, the IPRD offices across the nation must be transformed into thriving community centres that truly interact with the public, said the Union Minister. He said community centres need to become an indispensable part of every town and village and the successful public talks must focus more on relevant topics of public interest. He said more than two thousand public talks have been organized and many more should be on the way.

Next, IPRD Director-General U Ye Naing explained the work progress of the state and region offices. This was followed by the subnational IPRD heads briefing on their respective local affairs.

Afterwards, Deputy Minister U Aung Hla Tun provided additional discussions, after which the Union Minister concluded the meeting with a closing address.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
