An assistant locomotive driver was killed and the locomotive driver injured after a Bagan-bound special train was derailed in Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region early this morning. 

The accident occurred when a special train that operates between Bagan and Mandalay derailed between Wetlu railway station and Natogyi railway station. One carriage of the train overturned and an assistant locomotive driver identified as U Kyaw Kyaw Oo was thrown away and was prounced dead on the spot after being overrun by the train. The cause of the derailment is still unknown and an investigation into the case is ongoing, according to the railway officials. 

Policemen and volunteers from social organizations rushed to the scene of accident and the injured locomotive driver was sent to a nearby hospital.
