The Ministry of Health and Sports organized a coordination meeting for health sector development in Rakhine State yesterday morning.

Union Minister Dr Myint Htwe presided over the meeting and said to make appropriate plans for the development of health in Rakhine State by reviewing the needs and situations in skills, social, administration and management in cooperating with relevant departments and ministries.

He also called for a coordination between the local government and the Department of Public Health of the Rakhine State.

The Union Minister also suggested social conflicts, instability, security and volatile situations need to be considered in carrying out healthcare services in Rakhine State; deficiencies and challenges could be identified by holding discussions at the camps to be able to adopt proper plans as he quoted the concept of ‘Health as a Bridge for Peace’ for stability of Rakhine State.

The Union Minister pointed out the important role of mobile clinics for temporary rescue camps and remote areas in Rakhine State.

According to the Myanmar Micronutrient and Food Consumption Survey (MMFCS) (2017-2018), malnutrition is mostly found at women and the under-five children in Rakhine State.

Dr Myint Htwe also appraised health workers and physicians for their efforts to overcome various challenges in the State. He also pledged to fulfill the function of health sector development in Rakhine State.

Then, Rakhine State Social Minister Dr Chan Thar presented the works of local government for health sector, their challenges and difficulties.

Dr Nyan Win Myint, the Deputy Director of Central Epidemiology Unit of Department of Public Health, discussed preparations in repatriation programmes in Maungtaw and healthcare services for the returnees to the area.
