The Department of Urban and Housing Development under the Ministry of Construction organized a workshop to draft a strategy for Myanmar National Urban Policy at Thiri Mingalar Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
In the opening remark, Union Minister for Construction U Han Zaw said the first step for preparations of the National Urban Policy of Myanmar was started in December 2014, with the five thematic areas and three priority areas. He also said the National Urban Policy could ensure the future urban development as it is related with the three priority areas of Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan, the Myanmar Climate Change Master Plan and the Urban Policy.
Then, Country Programme Manager of UN-Habitat Mr Bijay Karmacharya extended greeting and Deputy Director-General Daw Aye Aye Myint, the Department of Urban and Housing Development explained preparations to draft a strategy for Myanmar National Urban Policy.
The officials and participants also discussed the five thematic areas and three priority areas.
Then, the Country Programme Manager of UN-Habitat presented the future plan for drafting National Urban Policy.
The workshop was also attended by Deputy Ministers U Hla Kyaw, Dr Ye Myint Swe, Dr Tun Naing and U Soe Aung, experts and members from National Urban Committee, representatives from partner organizations and officials. The workshop will continue on 23 October.
