State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held talks with the head of International Monetary Fund (IMF), the president of International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the prime minister of India at separate meetings at the Impact Muaung Thong Thani Commercial Complex, the venue of ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Bangkok.
State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of IMF, at Impact Sapphire-104, the venue of the ASEAN Summit, at 3.45 pm local standard time.
At the meeting cordial discussion were centred on continued provision of momentary and financial techniques, development of market economy and banking business, sharing of financial experiences and the best procedures of the countries at the initial stage of adopting the market economy and the challenges Myanmar is facing during its transition.
Afterwards, the State Counsellor met Mr. Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, at 4:20 pm local standard time.
During the cordial discussion, talks were centred on development of Myanmar football, performance improvement of Myanmar men and women footballers, greater familiarization of football techniques among youths, improvement of football techniques and football academies, cooperation between FIFA and the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Ministry of Education and meetings between globally acclaimed footballers and Myanmar youths.
The State Counsellor requested assistance from FIFA president to further enhance youth’s interest in sports, introduce a healthy lifestyle, promote team spirit and help Myanmar football to reach the top Asian ranking.
At 6:10 pm local standard time, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held talks with Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi at Impact Sapphire-109.
during the talks, they cordially exchanged views on extending cooperation between the two countries, exchange of high-level visits, continued constructive assistance from India, and ASEAN-India cooperation, based on common interest, and other issues including cementing bilateral relations, trade, transport, soonest operation of Sittway port, a sector of Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, demarcation of the remaining part of the common border between Myanmar and India, soonest reaching of cross-border traffic agreement, upgrading of female police training school in Yamethin, capacity-building for public servants, and human resources development.
Also present at the meetings were Union Ministers U Thaung Tun and U Kyaw Tin, Myanmar Permanent Secretary/ Ambassador to ASEAN U Min Lwin, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Myo Myint Than and officials. — MNA (Translation: TMT)
