2 December
A mass cycling event kicked off on December 1, the first Sunday of the month, in Monywa with the participation of more than 1,000 cyclists.
“This year, the December cycling event has attracted more than 1,000 cyclists. Earlier, only 800 people joined the event. Well-wishers donated steamed sticky rice and coffee at the event,” said U Than Aung, director of the Sagaing Region Sports and Physical Education Department.
The cyclists were flagged off from Monywa’s public sports field. The participants cycled over 3 miles, taking 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete the trip. “I have been cycling for health reasons for a month. I wish the mass cycling events are held frequently,” said a participant.
“The cycling event also includes 700 lucky draw programs for participants,” an event organizer said.
The mass cycling event was held to promote physical fitness. Two more mass cycling events will be held on 15 and 29 December, which are also Sundays. “Both professionals and amateurs can join the events with any kind of bicycles,” said U Than Aung.—Myo Win Tun(Translated by EMM)
