The police destroyed acres of poppy plantations in Hopong, Hsiseng and Pinlaung Townships in Shan State, Waingmaw Township in Kachin State and Nanyon Township in Sagaing Region on 28 December, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported.

 

An anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force Police destroyed almost 10 acres of poppy fields about two mile east of Hwaylon Village, Hopong Township in southern Shan State on 28 December. Similarly, another police squad from the township police force destroyed around 35 acres of poppy plantations near Tarhot Village in Waingmaw Township in Kachin State on the same day.

 

The commander of the township police force and his team also annihilated around 20 acres of poppy fields about two miles southeast of Kaungsawn Village in Pekhon Township. Another anti-drug squad led by the head of the township police force wiped out about 14 acres of poppy plantations around two miles southeast of Htantyang Village in Hsiseng Township on the same day.

 

Likewise, a combined squad eradicated around 19 acres of poppy fields about one mile south of Hteeohn Village in Hsiseng Township in Shan State on 28 December. As well, policemen from Naungtayar Police Station annihilated almost eight acres of poppy plantations about two miles northwest of Chonpoke Village on the same day.    

 

The Myanmar Police Force has been stepping up campaigns to destroy poppy cultivation throughout the country in cooperation with people, local authorities and civil society organizations.—MOHA
