Mogaung, 12 February
A hand-grenade was confiscated from a drunken man who attempted to set ablaze his own house in Kyuntaw Ward, Mogaung Township in Kachin State on 11 February, according to a source from the local police station.
The local police station received a phone call from anonymous tip that a drunken man identified as Hla Maung, 56, threatened his neighbours to torch his own house by using gasoline. Upon receiving information, local policemen and firefighters rushed to the house to prevent the man from setting a flame. But the man closed the door of his house and denied the police and firefighters to enter the house. So, the police and firemen broke the door while the son of the drunken man had been able to loot a hand-grenade from him.
The drunken man managed to flee the scene. In connection with the case, the house owner has been taken action by the local police station over possession of the weapon.—Win Naing (Kachin Land)
