The United States has announced a 16-count indictment against Huawei, including allegedly conducting secret business with North Korea in violation of UN sanctions.

The US Justice Department on Thursday unveiled an updated indictment against the Chinese tech giant and its subsidiaries.

The charges include bank fraud, conspiracy to steal trade secrets and defrauding US authorities.

The new charges include Huawei's involvement in business in North Korea and its attempts to conceal it.

Huawei allegedly shipped goods and services to North Korea without its logo, and used the code name "A9" to refer to the sanctioned country.

Huawei has denied involvement with North Korean businesses after the Washington Post reported last July that the firm was suspected of helping Pyongyang set up communication networks in the country.

Huawei on Thursday said the new indictment is "part of the Justice Department's attempt to irrevocably damage Huawei's reputation."

The US first indicted Huawei in January 2019 on fraud, money laundering and other charges.
