Chinese telecom giant Huawei says it will build a factory in France to make 5G wireless equipment.

Huawei Chairman Liang Hua told reporters on Thursday in Paris; "We forecast a 200-million-euro investment for the first phase of the project to acquire the property, build a plant and buy equipment. This will create 500 jobs, according to our estimates."

The US government is urging countries to exclude Huawei products from their high-speed 5G networks, citing security concerns.

But in Europe, the products are already in some systems. Customers often find it difficult to forgo the company's equipment due to its cost-effectiveness.

France and Britain say they plan to use Huawei products, except for military and other critical facilities.
