Kawthoung, 3 March

The Myanmar Navy’s ship seized a fishing boat for illegally catching sharp in Myanmar waters in Kawthoung District, Taninthayi Region on 2 March.

A ban has been in place by the Department of Fisheries for catching sharp in Myanmar waters to reportedly protect the endangered species. The fishing boat originally from Launglon Township was catching sharp in Myanmar waters without legal documents and the Myanmar Navy’s vessel led by Lt-commander Chit Maung Maung made the seizure of the fishing boat while performing the law enforcement activities.

Eight fishermen along with dried sharp were handed over to the Department of Fisheries by the Myanmar Navy so as to take action in accordance with the law.—Kyaw Soe (Kawthoung)
