A number of Myanmar migrant workers from Thailand returned through the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge (2) yesterday morning.

The returnees were from Tak Province while Myanmar nationals in Bangkok and other provinces will have to wait for the extension of the nighttime curfew and other rules.

Myawady District Administrator U Tayzar Aung said Tak Province and travel through it is restricted. However, Myanmar nationals in Mae Sot can come back home only on 1 May as the foreign ministry allowed their return beyond 30 April.

Kayin State Minister for Social Affairs U Bo Bo Wai Maung said they will arrange to transport people back home or to keep them in Myawady’s centres depending on the size of the their hometown’s population.

As of 12 noon yesterday, 7 people from Kayin State, 9 from Mon State, 1 from Sagaing Region, 30 from Bago Region, 2 from Nay Pyi Taw and 2 from Ayeyawady Region had returned. The 30 returnees from Bago Region and 9 from Mon State will be transported to their homes shortly and be put under quarantine.

The Kayin State Minister for Social Affairs U Bo Bo Wai Maung, Kayin State Hluttaw representative U Thant Zin Aung, District Administrator U Tayzar Aung, Township Administrator U Phyo Zaw Ko Ko and officials assisted in the medical check-ups and other processes for the returnees.—Htein Lin Aung (IPRD) (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
