A truck conductor was killed after a vehicle carrying raw jade stones overturned in Phakant Township, Kachin State.

The fatal accident occurred at a mountain slope near Manmhaw Village this morning. The truck loaded with uncut jade stones belonging to a private jade mining company flipped over after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The truck driver named U Kyaw Ngwe, 33, was injured and his colleague identified as Chit Lwin, 23, was pronounced dead on the spot in the incident.

In addition, a jade scavenger from Tatkon Ward, Myitkyina, reportedly died after being levered by a backhoe in a jade mining early this morning.—Tar Lin Maung (IPRD)
