A Royal Canadian Air Force jet has crashed in western Canada, killing one crew member and seriously injuring another.

Canadian media say the plane was making a flyover to boost the spirits of frontline workers who are tackling the coronavirus pandemic.

The jet crashed around noon, local time, on Sunday in the city of Kamloops, British Columbia. Images show flames shooting up from a house at the crash site.

Canadian media says the plane belongs to the air force's Snowbirds team.

Johns Hopkins University says about 78,000 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Canada and over 5,900 people have died.
