State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi wrote on her Facebook page yesterday that special consideration would be given for job creation in the formulation of plans to successfully manage the impact of COVID-19.
 

The State Counsellor said she had written the other day that the things they were doing at the moment were investments for the future; in any situation, whether the tendency was for the better or the worse depended a great deal upon those who were participants in that situation.
 

At the time when great numbers of Myanmar citizens were returning from abroad, certain thoughts came to mind; although making arrangements for health and transportation of the returnees was a heavy responsibility, it was a matter for great satisfaction and honour because they had returned to their own country with a feeling of dependence while encountering difficulties. Citizens of some powerful countries say “we are from such and such a country” and try to draw their energy from the strength and power of their country. She said in her case, she did not have any wish to get the better of anyone; she just wished the people of Myanmar to have a feeling of comfort and security that their country would never let them down.
 

She added that she also wanted to change the situation whereby Myanmar people had to go abroad because of economic necessities; in formulating plans to successfully overcome the impact of COVID-19, the creation of jobs would be given special consideration. In almost all cases, to achieve the desired goals, the cooperation and encouragement of the people was the key. It was possible that the income that could be obtained from working in Myanmar would not be able to match the income obtained in foreign countries. However, there was the value of being able to work in one’s own community in one’s own country and the resulting feeling of joy.
 

At this time which may be called the rehabilitation period of Myanmar, the opportunity to be able to contribute in whatever manner was very valuable indeed.
 

She concluded by saying “I urge all of you to participate in building up not only physical heritages but also spiritual heritages for generations to come.”
