Data compiled by Johns Hopkins University in the United States show that the number of confirmed coronavirus infections has topped 6.5 million worldwide.

The university says the total number of cases hit 6,570,362 as of 18:00 UTC on Thursday.

The United States tops the list with 1,859,135 cases. It's followed by Brazil with 584,016; Russia with 440,538; Britain with 283,075; Spain with 240,660; and Italy with 234,013.

The global death toll stands at 387,568.

The US has suffered the most deaths, with 107,450. It's followed by Britain with 39,987; Italy with 33,689; Brazil with 32,548; France with 29,024; and Spain with 27,133.
