Kawthoung, 5 June

Chief Minister of Taninthayi Region U Myint Maung together with local cabinet members, region, district and township level officials visited the construction site of Pulone Tone Tone Bridge in Kawthoung Township yesterday evening.

The chief minister and his party viewed round construction of the bridge and were briefed about the progress of the bridge by Director of the Bridge Special Group-4 U Kyaw Myo Tun. Next, the chief minister heard reports on construction of approaches in both sides of the bridge presented by Director of the Department of Road U Thein Zaw Win. The chief minister called for timely completion of the project within the timeframe by meeting the set standard.

The bridge linking Kawthoung Township with an island village named Pulone Tonetone Village is being built at an estimated cost of Ks. 13.44 billion. The new facility is 2,400 ft. long, 24 ft. wide and has a 3 ft. long pedestrian walkway on each side. The clearance of the bridge is 80 ft. wide, 3 ft. high and the structure is constructed mostly from reinforced concrete. Construction of the bridge, the first of its kind in Myanmar began in August 2017. The project has been 93 percent finished so far and the bridge is expected to be commissioned into service in September this year.

Once completed, local people would be able to use the new bridge in all seasons with greater ease. Marine products from the region can easily be transported to other regions and states across the country, providing better road transportation for locals and contributing to the balanced growth between rural and urban areas.
