An event to provide cash assistance to the disaster victims was held at the office of Department of Disaster Management in Saku Township, Magway Region yesterday evening.
Six families from Neikphankyun Village became relocated due to riverbank erosion of the Ayeyawady River on 12 June. Officials from the Department of Disaster Management presented Ks. 656,700 for buying rice and construction materials for the disaster victims through a village administrator.
The village consists of 221 households and some more families are expected to be relocated as a result of possible riverbank erosion. Some residents face financial hardship to purchase new land plots for settlement. The waterway of Ayeyawady River is cleared with the use of dredgers to prevent homes in the village from eroding, U Than Tun, Village Administrator said.
The department so far supplied more than Ks. 40 million to the disaster victims who suffer from the danger of rising water level of the Ayeyawady River yearly.
