Improvements for an earthen lake is being undertaken in Mraukkyi Village, Budalin Township in Sagaing Region in order to distribute water to obver 600 acres of farmland, U Khin Swe, an official from the supervisory committee for re-dredgeing Kandawgyi Lake said.
The earthen pond is 1,700 ft. in length, 182 ft. in width and 6 ft. in deep and is being dug by the DRD with the use of heavy machinery at a cost of Ks. 35.1 million of the Union Budget. The local lawmakers and members of the township quality inspection committee made a field trip to the lake to assess the work progress, calling for timely completion and meeting set standard.
Residents from the village face scarcity of water and rely on the rainwaters from the lake. In order to prevent local people from being shortage of water, repair works for the lake is being carried out and rainwater would be distributed to more than 600 acres of farmland.
