The Myitkyina-Tanai Road was submerged about 10 ft. by floodwaters from the Mogaung Creek due to incessant rains in Sha Duu Zut Village, Phakant Township in Kachin State since yesterday morning.
Some vehicles commuting along the Tanai-Phakant Road halted operations due to the inundation and flood victims were evacuated to safer places by rescuers by boats. A rescue operation is being carried out by a joint team consisting of departmental staff, policemen and firefighters led by Kamai Town Administrator.
51 households are currently taking shelter at the monasteries and flood victims from 13 families are sheltering at a church. 1,216 people from 214 households are also taking shelter at their relative’s homes. In addition, five homes were washed away by the floodwaters.
