SIX endangered bird species, out of nine in the country, are inhabiting in Chatthin Wildlife Sanctuary, according to the recent official data.


These bird species are Hooded treepie, Ayeyawady bulbul, Burmese bush lark, White-throated Babber, Jerdon’s minivet and Burmese Collared-dove.


The data collected from 1995 to 1997 showed that there are 241 bird species in Chatthin Wildlife Sanctuary which is located in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region.


The figure has increased to 262 after 21 new bird species were found in this sanctuary.


U Maung Maung Naing, the officer of sanctuary, said, “Collecting the figure of bird species could help in conducting research and awareness campaign for conservation of wildlife species.
