The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population (MoLIP) U Thein Swe held a coordination meeting in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. Speaking at the meeting, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe urged the officials concerned to speed up the works to ensure every citizen gets the national registration card which is required for voting in 2020 General Election.
He also said it is important for eligible citizens to gain voting rights and not to lose voting rights. The ministry is now focusing on issuing the citizenship scrutiny cards to both eligible voters at home and abroad. They are also cooperating with foreign embassies so that Myanmar citizens abroad can vote in the Nov-8 elections, he added. He also called for discussions on issuing cards that can be used in upcoming election at the meeting.
The ministry’s department heads in regions and states reported on their works to the meeting. The Union Minister urged the attendees to ensure their works to meet the ministry’s objectives. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister U Myint Kyaing, Permanent Secretary U Aye Lwin, directors-general, deputy directors-general and directors from the relevant departments, and heads and officials from the ministry’s states and regions departments.
