The Department of Archaeology and National Museum is preparing for the extensive preservations at the ancient Pakhangyi city in Yesagyo Township of Pakokku District in Magway Region.

A total of 330 religious buildings have been recorded at this area, ranging from stone era to Bagan and Konebaung period.

Officer U Ye Lwin from the department in Magway Region said that the last preservation to the ancient site was carried out about 20 years ago, and the expenditure for this project is being calculated before submitting a proposal for budget.

He added grass and wild plants have been cleared from this area by workers over 53 days.

Ancient Pakhangyi city was a fort under the reign of King Maha Dhamma Razar Dhipati in Nyaungyan period and its was also a district level town in Konebaung period.

Locals in this area produce traditional handicrafts made from earth, bamboo and cotton.

It is also the place where Thanaka plants are commercially planted.
