A ceremony was held in the US state of Texas on Sunday to remember those who were killed in a shooting, including Latinos, one year ago.


A white man went on a rampage at a Walmart store in the city of El Paso on August 3, 2019, leaving 23 people dead, including eight Mexicans. He is facing hate crime charges.


Bereaved families attended a memorial event at a local park. Flowers were laid after the victims' names were read out.


Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit group, says there have been over 10,400 gun-related deaths in the US so far this year, excluding firearm suicides.


It says the numbers of shooting incidents in cities like New York and Chicago have been greater than the same period a year earlier.


Efforts to introduce tougher gun control measures in the country have stalled in the face of opposition from the National Rifle Association, which strongly supports many Republican politicians. President Donald Trump has made no moves to introduce such legislation.
