Township authorities conducted an inspection in Laymyathna Township, Ayeyawady Region, to check the riverbank erosion after the water level in Ngawun River exceeded its danger mark due to the heavy rains.


Township Administrator U Kyaw Tun and officials from Township Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management inspected the measures to prevent riverbank erosion and urged the local residents to cooperate with the departmental personnel.


The town of Laymyathna is annually experiencing deluge of water and the danger mark of Ngawun River is 36 feet. According to the records, the water level in the river reached 36.4 ft in 2015, 36.05 ft in 2016, 35.50 ft in 2017, 34.05 ft in 2018, and 33.40 ft in 2019 respectively. Now, the water level in the river reached 34.45 ft in accordance with the observation of 6 am on 5 August. 


With the aim to reduce the anxiety of local residents, the township authorities are undertaking precautionary measures to prevent riverbank erosion and monitoring the water level in the river, according to the Township Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management.
