The opening ceremony of Children literature festival, literature exhibition and book sales, jointly organized by Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education and Kachin State Government was convened at the convocation hall of Myitkyina University, Kachin State yesterday morning.

Union Minister of Information Dr Pe Myint, Union Minister of Ethnic Affairs Naing Thet Lwin, Chief Minister of Kachin State Dr Khet Aung, State Hluttaw Speaker U Tun Tin and Deputy Minister of Information U Aung Hla Tun, Deputy Minister of Education U Win Maw Tun and outstanding students cut the ribbons to formally open the events and had a documentary photo taken together with those present.

In the opening ceremony, students from No. 1 Basic Education High School sang a song to open the ceremony.

Next, Union Minister Dr Pe Myint delivered an introductory speech, disclosing that the children literature festivals jointly conducted by Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education and region and state governments were held throughout the country in cooperation with governmental departments and it had been held since 2016.

The festival was aimed at cultivating good reading habits and  instilling in them the love of reading. It contains team contests to promote good practices with the activities of teams. The Ministry of Information has implemented not only children literature festival but also children’ reading rooms in the IPRD offices.

If kids equip themselves with reading practice, they will get life long learning that can lead them to valuable ones on which the country can rely in the future.

This was followed by speeches made by Union Minister Naing Thet Lwin, Chief Minister of Dr Khet Aung and Deputy Minister U Win Maw Tun. 

The students from Basic Education High Schools, Education Colleges and Myitkyina Universities and ethnic traditional dance troupes presented entertainments.
