In Yenangyaung Township, located in the Chauk District of Magway Region, winter oilseed crops such as sunflowers and sesame were planted in October and November last year and are now being harvested.
To ensure edible oil security and reduce the import of cooking oil from abroad, Yenangyaung Township has focused on planting sunflowers and sesame during the winter season, and the yield has been promising. Farmers have received necessary support, including technology and guidance on planting methods to enhance the yield of oilseed crops.
In Yenangyaung Township, a total of 3,128 acres of sunflowers and 262 acres of sesame were planted during the winter season. As of now, 2,702 acres of sunflowers and 262 acres of sesame have been harvested, according to the Yenangyaung Township Agriculture Department.—San Nyunt (Yenangyaung)
