Taninthayi, 3 September
According to the observations at 6 p.m. on 2 September, the water level of the Taninthayi River has exceeded 3 ft. and 3 inch above its danger mark following incessant heavy rains in Taninthayi Township since 23 August.
Some houses, bridges, roads, government offices and paddy fields in the low-lying areas have been inundated by floodwaters and some residents moved to temporary relief camps and their relatives to prevent themselves from natural disasters. The township disaster management committee set up five temporary rescue camps in the area and a total of 549 flood victims from 110 households is taking shelter at the relief camps.
15 flooded schools in the township were closed temporarily, according to a source from the township education officer’s office. The Myeik-Taninthayi-Bokepyin-Kawthoung Road has not been affected by the floods so vehicles can use the road safely, said the Department of Road.—Nan Tharyi+ Htein Win
