THE Akha culture and tradition supervisory team organized the 17th Akha Khar Htaung Phar festival at Zein Mon Akha Hotel in Tachilek township on 16 December.
At the event, Commander Maj-Gen Soe Hlaing of the Triangle Region Command made the opening speech, and supervisory team head U Min Nyo made a New Year speech.
Officials from the supervisory team then awarded the winners of the futsal and Sepak Takraw competitions, prayed for their ancestors and posed for the documentary photo together.
Akha youths also performed during the New Year festival.
The Akha Zan (aka) Akha ethnic people organize the festival to propagate their beliefs, honour their religion, literature and costume, explore their hidden culture, and reunion of Akha people living in Myanmar-Thai-Cambodia-Laos-China once a year, said leader U Min Nyo. — Myint Mo (Tachilek)/KTZH
