Two militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with government forces Tuesday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The gunfight broke out at village Awneera-Zainapora of Shopian district, about 75 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Early today, a gunfight triggered here between militants and joint contingents of police and army," a senior police official posted in Shopian told Xinhua. "In the exchange of fire, two militants were killed."
A police spokesman said that the bodies have been recovered from the spot.
Indian army and police have not suffered any damage in the gunfight.
