THE 2025 Thingyan Festival (Water Festival) will be celebrated at Inlay Lake in Shan State (South), according to the Shan State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
Cities across southern and eastern Shan State will set up pavilions for water splashing and entertainment while preparations are underway for the floating Thingyan Festival at Inlay Lake.
“Shan State is a popular tourist destination throughout the year. For this reason, this year’s Thingyan celebrations will take place in Taunggyi, Kalaw, Inlay, Aungban, Pindaya, Tachilek, and Kengtung, featuring both water pavilions and entertainment pavilions. Similarly, the renowned Floating Thingyan Festival in the Inlay region will be held with traditional dance performances, delicious food, and various entertainment activities. A coordination meeting was held in early March to ensure the successful organization of the 2025 Inlay Floating Thingyan Festival,” said an official from the Shan State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
The festival will run from the eve of Maha Thingyan until Myanmar New Year’s Day.
The Inlay Floating Water Festival was first held in 2019 but was suspended from 2020 to 2022. It was resumed in 2023 and will continue in 2025. — ASH/ MKKS
