A ceremony to present compensation to farmers whose farmlands were confiscated when the Pyay-Paukkhoung Railroad was built took place at the meeting room of the General Administration Department in Paukkhoung, Bago Region on 12 August.

At the ceremony, Amyotha Hluttaw Representative Dr. Win Myint, Pyithu Hluttaw Representative Daw Ni Ni Tun and Township Administrator U Kyaw Htay gave speeches. Next, an official from the Myanmar Railways clarified matters relating to the presentation of compensation.

Concerned officials then presented more than Ks. 329 million for 174.08 acres of farmland at the rate of Ks. 2 million for per acre of paddy land and Ks. 1.5 million for per acre of farmland to 246 peasants from seven village-tracts.—Than Htut Aung (IPRD)
