The 24th coordination meeting of the Union Supreme Court with Region/State High Courts, Self-Administered Division Court, Self-Administered Zone Court and District Court was held via video conferencing at the Union Supreme Court in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
First, Union Chief Justice U Htun Htun Oo said it should examine the cases as per the law without taking bribes and delays. The court-led mediation system supports the hearing of civil suits and the clients can get a chance to solve the prosecuted cases. And so, the court should make effort for a civil suit transfer and the arrival of defendants of both sides. It also should follow the provisions of law and procedures of the country for dispensing justice regarding money-laundering cases. It also needs to be aware of security for confidential documents and information. It should make efforts to meet the goals of the first-year work plan (2023) of the Judicial Strategic Plan (2023- 2027).
Between 1 January and 31 December 2022, the Union Supreme Court received 1,076 criminal cases and it resolved 936 cases while there were 1,844 civil suits (including 153 cases of the previous year) and 1,997 cases were resolved. Region/State High Courts received 4,505 criminal cases and resolved 4,662 cases (including 157 cases of previous cases) and they completed 5,032 civil suits (including 677 civil suits of previous years) among 4,355 civil suits. The Self-Administered Division Court, Self-Administered Zone Court and District Court received 28,272 criminal cases and examined 29,321cases (including 1,049 cases of the previous year) and they completed 27,866civil cases (including 438 cases of the previous year) out of 27,428 civil suits.
There were 169,421 criminal cases at the Township Courts and 189,910 cases (including 20,489 cases of the previous year) were resolved. They also received 19,514 civil suits and resolved 25,714 civil suits (including 6,200 cases from the previous year).
The Juvenile Court (Yangon and Mandalay) had 385 cases under Child Law and resolved 395 cases (including 10 cases from the previous year). The Municipal Court (Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay) completed 6,175 cases (including 233 cases from the previous year) out of 5,942 cases under the Municipal Law.
The Motor Vehicle Court (Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay) heard 45,547 traffic rule violations. The meeting will be held from 23 to 25 February. — MNA/KTZH
