28000 acres of croplands and some residential areas are being inundated due to floodwaters from Darka Creek in Kyonpyaw Township of Ayeyarwady Region.

As water level of Darka Creek has risen due to a torrential downpour, a total of 28115 acres of agricultural lands including 27545 acres of paddy fields, 433 acres of tapioca fields, 80 acres of banana fields, 28 acres of turmeric plantations, 26 acres of sugarcane plantations, two acres of corn plantations and one acre of other crops and a total of 101 houses in the Township are being submerged by floodwaters.

Victims of floodwaters are currently taking shelters at monasteries and safer places. In addition, a total of 17 Basic Education Schools have been closed to ensure the safety of teachers and students in the Township due to floodwaters from Darka Creek.—Township IPRD
