Mawlamyine, 22 May

Out of 100 people returning from Thailand, 31 people will be monitored and placed under 21-day quarantine at hostels that were diverted into quarantine centers in the compound of the University of Mawlamyine in Mon State’s capital city.

The remaining 69 returnees will reportedly be sent back to their homes across the country by train today. The returnees arrived at community based facility quarantine from Thailand on 21 May whereas they were conducted medical checks, and sprayed with disinfectant by concerned departments and volunteers from local social organizations.

“100 returnees came back to Myanmar from Thailand through Taninthayi Region. Among them, 31 returnees were from Mon State and they would be put under 21-day quarantine. 69 returnees would be sent back home by train today,” said U Wai Lin Tun, Mawlamyine Township Administrator.

According to the township administrator, 241 returnees are currently being quarantined at hostel-cum quarantine facilities in Mawlamyine.—Wai Lin (IPRD)
