A 400-bed tent hospital in Yangon jointly implemented by the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Ayeyarwady Foundation will accommodate coronavirus patients starting from 19 September. “We will receive 400 positive patients tomorrow,” said Ko Kyaw Zaw Han, an official of the foundation, told the Global New Light of Myanmar yesterday. Yangon Region is seeing rising numbers daily.

Over the past seven days, Myanmar saw 424 cases on 18 September, 149 cases on 17 September, 319 cases on 16 September, 307 cases on 15 September, 263 cases on 14 September, 337 cases on 13 September and 173 cases on 12 September respectively. 

“With 200 to 300 new cases daily, Yangon needs more hospital facilities for giving treatment to them,” said Prof. Dr Zaw Wai Soe, Rector of the University of Medicine-1, Yangon, in his recent interview with the Myanmar News Agency (MNA).

The 400-bed tent hospital is one of the emergency hospitals in Yangon for fighting against the pandemic in Yangon which is the most densely populated city in Myanmar. Yangon Region authorities has turned a housing complex in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township to a temporary hospital which will receive patients with moderate and non-symptoms of the disease. A building which had been used for facility quarantine in Hline University Campus will also be turned into a hospital with 500-bed capacity for giving treatment to serious patients.
