400 pearl, 160 gem, and 4,550 jade lots up for sale

State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attends the opening of the 59th Myanmar Gems Emporium for 2024.

 

Plans are underway to sell 400 lots of pearl, 160 lots of gems and 4,550 lots of jade to local and foreign gem merchants through an open tender system at the 59th Myanmar Gems Emporium for 2024.

 

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony to open the 59th Myanmar Gems Emporium for 2024 at Maniyadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

 

The Senior General and party viewed a video clip on the production of pearls and gems and sales and preparations for holding the 59th emporium for 2024.

 

After inspecting the display of jade, gems and pearl lots at Maniyadana Jade Hall, the Senior General heard the officials’ reports and gave necessary guidance.

 

The Senior General and party viewed round sales of jewellery items at private shops and display of uncut jade stones outside the hall.

 

The opening ceremony of the emporium was also attended by SAC Joint Secretary Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Council members General Mya Tun Oo, General Maung Maung Aye, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Daw Dwe Bu, Mahn Nyein Maung and U Shwe Kyein, union ministers, union-level dignitaries, the Nay Pyi Taw Council chairman, and officials as well as local and foreign gem merchants.

 

The emporium sets floor prices in US dollars for sales of pearl lots and gem lots, jade lots from A and B groups and jade lots from Group C in Myanmar kyat. Foreign gem merchants can pay deposits for jade lots from A and B groups in US dollars or euros, yuan and baht equal to US dollars. Likewise, local gem merchants can pay deposits in Myanmar kyat. Moreover, local gem merchants can pay a deposit for jade lots from Group C in Myanmar kyat. The jade lots from Group C are set for the purchase of local merchants only.

 

Local and foreign merchants can pay US dollars or euros, baht and yuan equal to US dollars to buy jade lots of Group A. Moreover, foreign merchants can pay US dollars or euros, baht, and yuan, which are equal to US dollars, to purchase jade lots, pearl lots, and gem lots from Group B. Local merchants can pay Myanmar kyat equal to US dollars for the value of these jade lots. Jade lots from Group C are set for purchase by local gem merchants only in Myanmar kyat. These pearl, gems and jade lots will be sold in an open tender system. The emporium will be held from 3 to 12 May.

 

Myanmar Gems Emporiums have been held since 1964 to sell gems to earn revenue in foreign currency for the State and make the interests of citizens booming. — MNA/TTA
