Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various procedures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in cooperation with the people in the country.

The combined team seized a total of 44.73 tons of illegal timber, including 21.22 tons of teak, 4.81 tons of hardwood and 18.70 tons of other types of timber in the country between December 9 and 15 this year, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw, State and Regional Forest Departments.

In addition, five culprits were apprehended in connection with the cases along with eight vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
