ACCORDING to the chairperson of the Kyonekapyin-Tapseik Wildlife Conservation Group (KTCG), approximately 50 species of birds, including migratory birds, flocked to the Kyonekapyin-Tapseik Wildlife Conservation Area in Ayeyawady Region in December 2024.
He further said that more than 20 species of migratory birds arrived in the area in December, and 48 birds, including some native birds, were recorded in December 2024.
“Starting from August, one or two migratory birds arrived. By September, many more have arrived. In December, there were more than 20 species. According to the list collected in December, 48 species of migratory and native species have been recorded. We will also collect a sample in January 2025, and we will know by the end of January,” he said.
Among the recorded species, some birds face extinction and some have not been recorded before. Since 2016, local people have been working together to protect bird species and the KTCG, which was formed in 2018, is working hard to protect birds.
Foreign tourists visited the area in 2018 and 2019 to observe bird species, while more than 160 local bird lovers and 37 people visited in 2022 and in the last months of 2024 respectively. — MT/ZN
