Fifty-two people were injured, ten of them seriously, when a bus and a truck collided on Tuesday on the A12 highway in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, the German press agency dpa reported.

The crash occurred between the towns of Storkow and Friedersdorf, a police spokesman said.

According to initial reports, a tanker truck headed for Berlin had attempted to change lanes. In doing so, it hit a truck and collided with the long-distance Polish bus.

The highway was closed as helicopters, ambulances and police officers arrived on the scene.

All the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals and the lanes on the highway remain closed, the police said.
