With the aim of increasing local farmers’ income and ensuring food security, 67,857 acres of crop varieties have been earmarked to plant this winter crop growing season.
A total of 67,857 acres of crop varieties including 4,666 acres of groundnut, 2339 acres of sesame, 114 acres of winter sunflower, 36261 acres of bean varieties, 6228 acres of corn, 4032 acres of sugarcane, 421 acres of onion, 207 acres of chili, 11290 acres of vegetable and 271 acres of flower varieties will be grown in Thegon Township of Bago Region this year’s winter crops growing season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
In order to achieve high yield, officials from the Agricultural Advisory Committee and the Township Agriculture Departments are making field trips and providing farmers with necessary assistance such as agricultural techniques, methods of planting and prevention of pest infestation in the Township.—Ko Kyaw(IPRD)
