Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is initiating various ways, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in cooperation with the people in the country.

The combined team seized a total of 71.86 tons of illegal timber, including 30.39 tons of teak, 2.56 tons of hardwood and 38.90 tons of other types of timber in the country from 18 to 24 November this year, according to the statistics sent by the Nay Pyi Taw, State and Regional Forest Departments indicated.

In addition, 15 culprits were arrested in connection with the cases along with nine vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
